A gastronomic event was organized in 25/9/2020, for the acquaintance of the public with the tasteful lionfish. The event was organized in the frames of the LIONHARE project, with the cooperation of the Region of Crete and the fishers’ organization “Poseidon” and took place at the Robinson Club in Ierapetra. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, only 50 persons participated the event, representing the sectors of fishery, fish-trade, food and media.
Various lionfish dishes were offered to the guests by the chef Antonis Messanakis. The aim of the event was the promotion of lionfish consumption, which will contribute either to sustain local fishery and economic activities, but also to reduce the populations of the invasive lionfish in the area.
