Within the framework of the Program the sounds produced by lionfish were studied. For this purpose, nine specimens, separated into three size groups, were placed alternately in a specially designed tank, equipped with two hydrophones connected to a sound recording device. At the same time, a video camera was positioned near the glass front of the tank to capture fish behaviour and correlate it to the produced sounds. In total, 2,656 audio clips were produced, with an initial analysis indicating that sounds were produced by lionfish of all sizes and both sexes throughout the day. In some cases, the behaviour of the fish corresponding to the produced sound was also documented during the audio recordings. The analysis of the data, which is still in progress, is expected to give us more information about the potential use of sound signals as a means to control the populations of the species.
