26/9/2021: The 2nd lionfish elimination action was carried out in SE Crete by speargun fishers in cooperation with HCMR. Members of Greek Red Cross took care for the safety of the participants. More than 20 speargun fishers participated who eliminated all lionfishes from a certain area. HCMR scientific stuff got samples and measurements of the fished lionfishes and afterwards the participants prepared delicious fast recipes.
HCMR scientists will monitor the specific area for the next time space, to estimate the resettlement time, in order to evaluate the effect of such mitigation action to the lionfish populations
